Messiaen's 3rd Mode – A Method for GuitarI’m excited to share my book, Messiaen's 3rd Mode – A Method for Guitar, with you. Inspired by Olivier Messiaen’s fascinating 3rd mode of limited transposition, this method is a journey into new sounds, fresh harmonic possibilities, and creative freedom. For years, I explored ways to bring Messiaen’s rich musical language onto the guitar. This book distills those discoveries into a clear and practical method, helping you navigate the mode, understand its structure, and apply it to improvisation, chords, and composition.Inside, you’ll find:Step-by-step explanations of the 3rd mode’s unique soundFretboard diagrams and practical exercises tailored for guitaristsOriginal etudes to help you internalize the mode through real musicIdeas to fuel your creativity and break free from predictable patterns
Whether you’re a jazz player, composer, or simply a curious guitarist, this method will open doors to a whole new palette of colors on your instrument.Available now for €14,50 (digital download). If you're interested, please contact me via mail.
Excerpt
Hi! I’m Paul, an artist, musician, and writer with a passion for exploring creativity in all its forms. Born in Hamburg, Germany, I’ve followed my artistic journey across Europe, weaving together diverse experiences and influences.I studied jazz guitar at PCC in the Netherlands, and deepened my understanding of improvisation and expression through a master’s degree in Improvised Music and Jazz at NMH in Oslo, Norway. Music has been my foundation, teaching me to embrace spontaneity and innovation in everything I create. As a fine artist, I craft unique prints that reflect the same improvisational energy found in my music. As a writer, I dive into the worlds of music theory but I also do prose.Whether on stage, on paper, or on canvas, my work is about connection, expression, and discovery. Feel free to explore my portfolio and reach out!
